Characteristics and Applications

IK-20B is an iodonium salt type photoacid generator. Combined with a sensitizer, it can handle longer wavelengths.
Its anionic structure is borate, and it exhibits high cationic polymerization.
It also has excellent low outgassing during polymerization and low metal corrosion of the cured material.
It can also be used as a high-temperature type thermal acid generator.
IK-20B is a non-solvent type powder product.

IK-20B Structure
  • Differences from sulfonium salt types
    Compared to the sulfonium salt type, the iodonium salt type has relatively poor storage stability when blended with cationic polymerizable resins, but a large sensitizer effect can be expected when used in combination with a sensitizer.
  • Recommended sensitizers
    Anthracene-based sensitizers such as butoxyanthracene (DBA) and thioxanthone-based sensitizers such as isopropylthioxanthone (IPTX) are expected to provide significant sensitization.
  • Polymerization initiation temperature
    When blended with bisphenol A glycidyl ether, polymerization starts at 210°C.
  • Characteristics of the generated acid [HB(C6F5)4]
    It has high acid strength and reactivity equivalent to HSbF6. It is also resistant to hydrolysis and does not generate hydrofluoric acid, thus preventing corrosion of surrounding metal parts.
  • Recommended amount of additive
    Depending on the application and film thickness, add about 0.5 to 1 wt% to the resin.
