CPI-100B(40)/CPI-110BIonic Photoacid Generator, Photo-Cationic Polymerization Initiator (Sulfonium)

Characteristics and Applications

CPI-110B is our general-purpose grade sulfonium salt type photoacid generator.
It has excellent storage stability when blended with cationic polymerizable monomers because the cation is a high-purity monomer produced by our own proprietary process.
The anionic structure is borate and shows high cationic polymerization. Although it is antimony-free, it has the same acid strength as antimony products (e.g., CPI-101A) and exhibits high cationic polymerization.
CPI-100B(40) is a 40% propylene carbonate solution.

CPI-100B(40)/CPI-110B Structure
  • Regarding absorbed wavelengths
    The i-line (365 nm) absorbs about 80 [M-1 cm-1] in terms of molar extinction coefficient. There is no absorption in the h-line (405 nm) and g-line (436 nm).
  • Characteristics of the generating acid [HB(C6F5)4
    It has high acid strength and reactivity equivalent to HSbF6. In addition, since it is resistant to hydrolysis and does not contain hydrofluoric acid, it is possible to prevent corrosion of surrounding metal parts.
  • Recommended amount of additive
    Add about 0.5 to 1 wt% to the resin, depending on the application and film thickness.
  • Recommended film thickness
    Although it depends on the application and the amount of addition, the molar extinction coefficient is small, so even a thick film of 100 μm or more has high light transmittance in the depth direction and can generate acid to the deep part.
    On the other hand, in the case of a thin film of about 10 μm, the type with a large molar extinction coefficient (CPI-400 series, etc.) is suitable because the effect of transmittance is small. The CPI-300 series is suitable for medium film thicknesses of about 50 μm.
  • Recommended sensitizers
    It has a high sensitizing effect for anthracenes such as dibutoxyanthracene (DBA).
    On the other hand, the sensitizing effect of thioxanthone such as isopropyl thioxanthone (IPTX) is low.
